Temples in the mountain were built as early as the Eastern Han Dynasty(24_220) and Buddhism was interduced to the mountain during the Jin Dynasty.In the Ming and Qing dynasties there were more than 150 temples,so the Emeimountain is also regarded as the 'kingdom of monks'.

   Its main peak, Wanfo Peak, is 3,099 meters above sea level. Since ancient times Emei Mountain is known for its stiff cliffs,high rising peaks,roating waterfalls,gurgling springs,towering ancient trees and fragrant flowers .It has been described as "Beauty Under Heaven."
